DREMON SUPERJANKY BY TADO (REVIEW)

DREMON SUPERJANKY BY TADO (REVIEW)

Review and Photography by Eric Emm @talkie_round_hole

Today I am very happy to review the newest super Janky from Superplastic and UK artists Mike and Katie, better known as the super creative TADO. Always able to deliver adorable and vibrant designs, this new collaboration with Superplastic is one for the books and so far one of my favorite super Janky designs and executions to date.

"One of my favorite super Janky designs and executions to date."

From the first sight of the box, I found myself super impressed with the colorful design and whimsy of the outside packaging. One side features a bold up close look of the figure from what were most likely the original illustrations, while the flip side has the Dremon figure ready to fuck shit up on her bike with her adorable (but deadly serious) spiked bat. As you open the box you find another layer of cuteness on the flaps in the shape of a TADO style black cat. When seeing this design pop up for sale a month or so back, there were things I was hoping would be in place. Once I got the box open, and the figure unpacked, I was very pleasantly surprised that a lot of those wishes were fulfilled!

First thing I had hoped for was that the helmet would be removable and not part of the figure. It is always such a drag when you get a figure like this and the hat is just part of it, so seeing that this was removable and that it is cut to fit most any of the super Janky figures was such a nice find. I am sort of a perpetual child, so knowing I can take this helmet and put it on any of the other figures I already have fills my bones with glee. The next thing I really hoped for and Superplastic delivered on is the face mask. I was already resigned to thinking that the mask would just be part of the design, but again was stoked to find that it was an actual mask that could be removed. It is so nice to see the figure has an actual face (which is super adorable) and again the kid in me loves that I can use the mask on any of the other super Janky figures in my collection. The multicolored lightning bolts on the mask let you know she is representing the Superplastic brand proudly.

This figure only gets better the more I look at it and even the stripped down Janky is full of great design work and details that really make it stand out as one of my favorites. From the tattoos, to the all of the jacket details, it really packs in lots of cuteness mixed with just the right amount of badass so you take her seriously. I love the little frog on the lapel of the jacket and the fish band around the arm. One hand is adorned with a vibrant hot pink glove, while the other has the nice added effect of multicolor painted nails on the tips of the hand. She also comes with some really great accoutrements by way of a sparkled pink dented bat with hello kitty handle and her matching pink studded brass knuckles for when she needs to get down and dirty.

I really cannot heap enough praise on the design and execution of this piece. It also feels timely with the protests going on all over the world and the current need to be masked anywhere one goes these days. Everything just comes together beautifully and hopefully you are lucky and already picked this one up because she is SOLD OUT. If you did not get to snag one of these on the original release, and you are collecting Superplastic, this one is a must to add to your collection. So don’t give up and keep your eyes peeled to the auction sites or someone online that may have bought more than one and is willing to give it up.
